Arizona oversize permit requirements
Arizona has a weekend provision that no neighbouring state matches, and it is aimed squarely at big loads. A load within sixteen feet of width, sixteen feet of height, a hundred and twenty feet of length and two hundred and fifty thousand pounds may travel from three in the morning until noon at weekends — outside holidays and curfew areas. Nine hours of Saturday and Sunday for a load that in most states would be parked from Friday afternoon.
The cities take the rest back. Oversize and overweight loads are barred from I-17, I-10 and SR 60 in Phoenix, and from I-10 and I-19 in Tucson, between seven and nine in the morning and four and six in the evening on weekdays. Both cities also require their own local courtesy permit for over-dimensional travel, so an urban delivery has state and city paperwork rather than one document.
Two figures set Arizona apart from the states east of it. Legal height is fourteen feet, not thirteen six, which is the western standard and means a load that is oversize in Oklahoma is legal here.
