Indiana oversize permit requirements
Indiana issues the longest single-trip permit on the corridor — fifteen days, against five in Illinois and Ohio and three in Oklahoma. For a move with any uncertainty in it, that alone is worth planning around. The permits come from the Department of Revenue's Motor Carrier Services division rather than from INDOT, which is the same split Texas uses and the same wrong turn carriers make there.
Hours are graded by size. Within a hundred and ten feet, ten feet wide, thirteen feet six high and two hundred thousand pounds, a load runs around the clock. Above that it is daylight seven days a week up to fourteen feet four of width; between fourteen four and sixteen feet it loses the weekend; and past sixteen feet wide, fifteen feet high or two hundred thousand pounds it is confined to a half-past-eight to half-past-three window on weekdays.
Two rules govern equipment rather than routing. Blades and buckets must be hauled separately — they cannot ride attached — and there is no length exemption for beams and construction materials, which is the opposite of Illinois and Kansas next door. Legal length also carries a kingpin condition: fifty-three feet for the trailer and load, with kingpin to rear axle no more than forty-three feet. The Indiana Toll Road runs its own regime, with a separate fifty-dollar permit above its own thresholds.

Operating time. Within 110′ long, 10′ wide, 13′6″ high and 200,000 lb: around the clock. Above that: daylight, seven days a week, up to 14′4″ of width; 14′4″ to 16′ wide, weekdays only; over 16′ wide, over 15′ high or over 200,000 lb, typically 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM on weekdays. Overweight-only loads run around the clock.
Restricted travel. No travel on major holidays or holiday weekends.
